Management / leadership oriented degrees?

Hi, I'd like to ask which degrees you believe are best for leadership and management? I was thinking Business Administration would be a good one or [any] Engineering, but what else ((Both 4 Year and Masters))?

It seams to me that in the last 10 years upper-management would rather have a technical (engineer) in charge rather than an MBA. I think this is due to managers being politicians rather than industrial engineer types. I think management as a degree also suffered in the 90's due to so many management fads. The upper-management positions tend to come from the financial management field.

Even having said this many companies are investing heavy in six sigma and TPM type programs that are industrial engineering improvement programs.

I think a lot of people would be surprised to hear H-Pappy's assessment, but I'm sure that there are some companies that feel this way. MBAs don't seem to be having any trouble getting jobs, in my experience. I know that we have a Systems Engineering and Leadership program at the graduate level at my school – it combines graduate-level engineering and management skills.

I would say go for the MBA in HR. Stuyding managnmnet is a joke at most colleges. The only way to learn to manage is to really manage and read books of great managers
