is it too late to become a doctor?

March 20th, 2010 · 3 Comments · Leadership and Business Management

i am currently in grade 12 and taking the following courses:

English
Data Management
Biology
Chemistry
International Business
Management Business
Leadership&Peer Support

I know you need advanced function or calculus to get into med school, but because i didn’t do well in uni grade 11 math and took uni/coll. in summer school i had to take data management. My question is if i do take data management now and take functions or calculus in summer school, will i still be able to go to university to become a doctor?? my guidance councilor keeps telling me i can’t and should give up and become a nurse. I am good at every other subject and always get 80% and above, math is my only weakness but I still want to try and know that i didn’t give up. I live in Canada by the way!!!

P.S. 10 Points to Best Answer!!!

Never give up on your dreams! I’m terrible at math too and I still want to be a doctor! You can do this! Have faith in yourself and go for your dreams!

No. You’ll need to get an undergraduate degree first, and you’ll have plenty of opportunity to take the appropriate courses for pre-med majors and pass the MCAT.

You need a bachelor’s (4 year) degree first anyway; if you do well in college they’ll probably overlook any minor glitches in high school. What you know now is that you need to work on math – which is important but not a deal breaker if your other qualifications are good. Tell your guidance counselor to stuff it; follow your own goals, not his.
